Boys' Golf: Dittrich competes at Bunker Hills in last state meet
Raider senior Nick Dittrich's two rounds at Bunker Hills Golf Club for the Class AAA state golf meet were remarkably consistent. Both days he shot 3-over-par 75, a 38-37 on day one and 34-41 for day two.
Dittrich said he thought he played well on both days. On day two, his first nine started with a two-under 34 that saw him make four birdies and two bogies with a hot putter. However, he said his putting cooled off on the second nine (players played the nine-hole East and West courses each day) which resulted in a 5-over 41 to wrap up his tournament.
Dittrich finished tied for 20th with a two-day score of 150, 11 strokes behind winner Tristan Nelko of Wayzata. He improved 10 spots and four strokes from last year's state tournament when he tied for 30th with a 154. Two years ago he also tied for 20th with a 152.
"Um, not much difference the way I hit the ball, I hit the ball pretty much the same," Dittrich said about comparing the two days. "Today (Wednesday, day two) I was just able to make a lot more putts on the front nine and then cooled off and got into some tough spots on the back nine. But what can you do, a couple 75s is pretty solid."
This was Dittrich's last meet as a Hastings Raider and he said he definitely took time to appreciate that fact.
"The 18th hole, I kind of took an extra look on every one of my shots," he said. "My last tee shot I kind of took an extra look at and then the approach shot coming home I kind of glanced at one extra time to soak it in, it was pretty cool."
During his time golfing on varsity for Hastings, Dittrich has compiled an impressive list of achievements. He has been named Metro East All-Conference all four years he has played, qualified for state the past three years and was recognized with All-State honors those three years, and this year he was a finalist for Mr. Minnesota Golf award. Not to mention the numerous tournaments he has won around the state.
Dittrich will be attending Minnesota State University-Mankato in the fall and will be a part of the Mavericks' men's golf team.
